Common Questions
How do I know if my bike needs a tune-up?
Like their riders, all bikes are unique -- including the condition they're in. There is no obvious indication that a bike may need a full tune-up. For that reason, please bring your bike in for a free evaluation. We will identify what your bike needs and come up with a reasonable estimate and timeline for repairs. Generally, an evaluation lasts less than five minutes and can be done anytime we're open, no appointment, while you wait.
How much will it cost?
A general tune-up will cost $100 for labor, with additional parts and labor budget added to that. Most tune-ups land in the range of $125-$175. We are willing to work with your budget and make choices that balance safety and reliability with cost.
What if I need less done? What if my bike needs specific repairs?
We don't upsell on repairs. During an evaluation, we look for specific issues needing addressed. If those issues add up, we may consider it a tune-up and bundle it as such. Otherwise, we will budget labor a la carte to get you rolling with no time or money wasted. See our labor menu for a full breakdown of what we can do for you.
What if I just have a flat tire?
Why didn't you say so! Flat repairs can usually be turned around within an hour of dropping off. Flat repairs will generally cost $25 or less, though we charge additional fees for bikes with internally geared hubs, cargo bikes and e-bikes.
How long will my repairs take?
We split repairs into two timelines -- the schedule and the short list. Tune-ups and repairs which take significant shop time will be scheduled. Our schedule is usually around two weeks out, with some variability according to the season. Smaller jobs will be put on our short list, which is a queue that is generally shorter than a week's wait. Some simple repairs may be treated as "on the spot" at our discretion. Please call for our current wait times.
Can I leave my bike with you? Or, can I keep it in the meantime?
Usually, yes. We have plenty of storage at our shop and can hold your bike until it's scheduled repair date or place in the queue without issue. If you choose to schedule a repair and continue riding until that date, we request you drop it off at least a day in advance. That way, we can start on it first thing and get it back to you as fast as possible.
How will I know it's done? What will I need to pick it up?
We will always call to confirm that your repair is finished. In certain circumstances, we may text or email instead. If you have not heard from us a couple days after your scheduled repair date, please reach out in case there was a communication error. Your name and payment is all that's needed to pick up your bike. If a friend or significant other is picking up, please let us know in advance.
E-Bike Policies
Do you work on e-bikes?
Mostly. We are capable of servicing anything "bike" on your e-bike. This generally includes your brakes and drivetrain, but excludes the motor, battery, and control systems. When in doubt, feel free to call and we can work it out.
Will it be more expensive?
Probably. E-bikes come with complicating factors which make repairs time-consuming. We charge an additional $20 fee for e-bike handling and storage, as well as a $20 hub-motor disconnect fee when necessary. Any e-bike related costs will be discussed upfront.
Are there any e-bikes you will not work on?
Unfortunately, yes. We are unable to service e-bikes that do not have a traditional seatpost. This includes brands such as Surron and Super 73. This policy has to do with our repair stands, as our mechanics not able to service these e-bikes in a safe manner. If you are unsure if your e-bike fits this category, feel free to call.
